Oklahoma St rolls Purdue in Heart of Dallas Bowl

DALLAS (AP) ? Clint Chelf threw three of Oklahoma State's five touchdown passes and the Cowboys shook off a disappointing Big 12 finish by dominating Purdue 58-14 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on Tuesday.

The Cowboys, a year removed from a Fiesta Bowl win that capped the best season in school history, forced five turnovers and had another short touchdown drive after a 64-yard punt return from Josh Stewart.

It was the biggest bowl win for Oklahoma State since coach Mike Gundy was the quarterback in a 62-14 rout of Wyoming in the 1988 Holiday Bowl. The Cowboys (8-5) missed out on upper-tier bowls after narrow losses in their last two Big 12 games.

With former Purdue quarterbacks Drew Brees and Kyle Orton watching, Robert Mavre didn't get to 100 yards passing until Oklahoma State led 45-0 as the Boilermakers (6-7) fell to 0-4 on New Year's Day.

Leading 28-0 at halftime, Oklahoma State erased any lingering doubt three plays into the second half when Justin Gilbert stripped Purdue receiver O.J. Ross on a short completion. The loose ball shot straight to Daytawion Lowe, who ran 37 yards down the sideline in front of the Purdue bench for a 35-0 lead.

Lowe's score was the third fumble return for a touchdown at historic Cotton Bowl Stadium dating to the namesake bowl game that started in 1937 and moved to Cowboys Stadium in 2009.

Oklahoma State's 58 points were the most in a bowl game at the Fair Park stadium, topping the 55 scored by Keyshawn Johnson and Southern California against Texas Tech in 1995.

The Cowboys pushed the lead to 45-0 on Chelf's third touchdown pass, a leaping 37-yard grab in the end zone by Isaiah Anderson, who had 78 yards receiving. Chelf was 17 of 22 for 197 yards before J.W. Walsh replaced him in the third quarter.

Walsh had two touchdown passes, and freshman Wes Lunt, who won the quarterback job in summer workouts before getting hurt during the season, played the last half of the fourth quarter.

Purdue finally scored late in the third quarter when Mavre found a wide open Brandon Cottom for a 32-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Mavre finished 21 of 34 for 212 yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions, but was just 11 of 20 for 80 yards before the first scoring drive.

Gundy didn't hide the disappointment of Oklahoma State's bowl status sliding with an overtime loss to Oklahoma when the rival Sooners tied the score late in regulation, followed by a loss at Baylor to end the regular season. But the Cowboys seemed motivated enough against the Boilermakers.

Oklahoma State went up 14-0 on a pair of short touchdown drives set up by a 64-yard punt return by Josh Stewart and Shamiel Gary's interception of a pass tipped by Calvin Barnett. Both scores on came on passes from Chelf.

Purdue answered with its best scoring chance of the first half when Akeem Shavers, who had 93 yards rushing, ran 24 yards to the Oklahoma State 23. After Gary made a strong tackle in the open field on third down, Sam McCartney missed a 34-yard field goal.

The Cowboys then went 80 yards the other way, sparked by a 26-yard completion to Blake Jackson, who had a 7-yard scoring catch earlier. Oklahoma State scored on fourth-and-1 when Walsh, the short-yardage specialist, replaced Chelf and threw a 16-yard scoring pass to Jeremy Seaton.

Trailing 21-0, the Boilermakers were in scoring range again when Marve threw high on fourth-and-2 to an open Kurt Freytag, who got a hand on the ball but couldn't make a juggling catch.

Purdue's best moment came on its first possession when interim coach Patrick Higgins ran a fake punt from his 13, and punter Cody Webster easily picked up the first down with a 16-yard run. Webster ended up punting anyway five plays late.

Theatre In The Park announces auditions for The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh. This production will be directed by Ira David Wood III.

Auditions will be held at Theatre In The Park, located at 107 Pullen Road Raleigh, NC 27607 on Tuesday January 8th beginning at 7:00 PM. Please come prepared with a contemporary monologue.

Flickr is the most popular photo-specific web service around (with over 26 million unique visitors per month, according to recent comScore numbers) and it earned our Editors' Choice as the best. But its mobile app has long been held up as a missed opportunity because of the many features of the main service it lacked. A recent major update changes all this?it's now a fantastic photo app?and adds a strong play in the social networking ecosystem, with Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr integration. But maybe most significant new features are its Instagram-like photo enhancements, which, coming on the heels of Instagram's recent lessening of Twitter integration, could be a big new venue for Flickr.?

Setup/Signup
In the iTunes App Store, the same new Flickr app states support for both iPhone and iPad, though it only appears in the iPhone section. Users of the new iPhone 5 will be happy to note that the new app takes advantage of their phone's longer display. Unfortunately, on the iPad, the app is formatted with the small iPhone-size image; you can hit the 2x button to fill most of the screen. Of course, you could just go to the full Web version in Safari on the iPad. If you don't have a Flickr account, you can sign in with your Facebook or Google account, and of course, a Yahoo Mail login works

Interface and Features
In place of the old app's three simple tabs for Recent, You, and Contacts, you now get five buttons across the bottom for contacts/groups, Interesting/Nearby, your own Photo Stream and Activity, and More, which offers searching among other functions. This is one interface design aspect that some may prefer the old app for?there the search box was prominently at the top of the home page.

The really great thing about the new interface is its use of the swipe gestures. I can swipe sideways through any of my contacts' photo streams or up and down to switch among contacts. In the Interesting/Nearby mode, accessible from the globe button, I can swipe down through all the cream of the photos culled from nearly 2 million daily uploads. And all this swiping and switching among button modes is superfast; Yahoo has clearly put efforts into the performance of the app.

Instead of showing a grid of small square boxes when you're viewing a photo stream or set, the new app uses the much more appealing "justified" layout familiar from the new Flickr Web design. This layout offers a much better view of the photos, and you don't get it with Picasa's mobile experience (Picasa doesn't have an iOS app) or in apps from Photobucket, SlickPic, or even Instagram.

The individual photo view is also improved. Tapping on the image opens it in full screen, but not you can zoom in by spreading fingers on it?up to its full resolution?and pinch to zoom out. The old app only let you fit the image to the phone's screen?no pinch zooming. You can still comment on, favorite, and share a photo from its page, and now, clicking the "i" brings up the photo's map, tags, groups it's included in, and EXIF info such as shutter speed, ISO, focal length, and F-stop. To Favorite a photo, you double-tap on it; I actually prefer heart button, which seems less likely to result in unintentional favoriting.

One thing you can't do is save a photo from a Web album to your phone, something available in the previous version. This app is more about going the other way?taking pictures with your iPhone and uploading them to the service and sharing them on social sites. It now even offers batch uploads, where you select multiple photos for uploading at once. But hopefully the Flickr dev team will restore the ability to download photo stream images in a future update.

Hillary Clinton hospitalized with blood clot

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is under observation at a New York hospital after being treated for a blood clot stemming from the concussion she sustained earlier this month.

Clinton's doctors discovered the clot Sunday while performing a follow-up exam, her spokesman, Philippe Reines, said. He would not elaborate on the location of the clot but said Clinton was being treated with anti-coagulants and would remain at New York-Presbyterian Hospital for at least the next 48 hours so doctors can monitor the medication.

"Her doctors will continue to assess her condition, including other issues associated with her concussion," Reines said in a statement. "They will determine if any further action is required."

Clinton, 65, fell and suffered a concussion while at home alone in mid-December as she recovered from a stomach virus that left her severely dehydrated. The concussion was diagnosed Dec. 13 and Clinton was forced to cancel a trip to North Africa and the Middle East that had been planned for the next week.

The seriousness of a blood clot "depends on where it is," said Dr. Gholam Motamedi, a neurologist at Georgetown University Medical Center who was not involved in Clinton's care.

Clots in the legs are a common risk after someone has been bedridden, as Clinton may have been for a time after her concussion. Those are "no big deal" and are treated with six months of blood thinners to allow them to dissolve on their own and to prevent further clots from forming, he said.

A clot in a lung or the brain is more serious. Lung clots, called pulmonary embolisms, can be deadly, and a clot in the brain can cause a stroke, Motamedi said.

Keeping Clinton in the hospital for a couple of days could allow doctors to perform more tests to determine why the clot formed, and to rule out a heart problem or other condition that may have led to it, he said.

Dr. Larry Goldstein, a neurologist who is director of Duke University's stroke center, said blood can pool on the surface of the brain or in other areas of the brain after a concussion, but those would not be treated with blood thinners, as Clinton's aide described.

Clinton was forced to cancel Dec. 20 testimony before Congress about a scathing report into the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. The report found that serious failures of leadership and management in two State Department bureaus were to blame for insufficient security at the facility. Clinton took responsibility for the incident before the report was released, but she was not blamed.

Some conservative commentators suggested Clinton was faking the seriousness of her illness and concussion to avoid testifying, although State Department officials vehemently denied that was the case.

Lawmakers at the hearings ? including Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., the Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman who has been nominated by President Barack Obama to succeed Clinton ? offered her their best wishes.

Last Thursday, before the discovery of the blood clot, Reines said Clinton was expected to return to work this week.

The former first lady and senator, who had always planned to step down as America's top diplomat in January, is known for her grueling travel schedule. She is the most traveled secretary of state in history, having visited 112 countries while in the job.

Clinton is considered a front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, although she has not announced plans to run.

Pamela S. Gockley, CEO of Vigilant Corp., has written ?The Reputation Factor: Repositioning to Succeed.? The book asks readers to focus on reputation and make it the cornerstone of putting themselves, their companies and their careers on the right track.

Gockley is also president of Gockley Associates, a Leesport training, coaching and consulting firm. Vigilant Corp. is a website development and digital marketing company. Gockley wrote the book after seeing clients of both companies have problems with their reputations getting in the way of success.

?It started to really make me crazy because people don?t understand how your reputation can be maintained,? she said.

She advises people about the 3 D?s: discover your reputation, define your reputation and develop your reputation daily. Your reputation is one of the few things that you can control, Gockley said. You may have a certain image of yourself, but others might actually see you as disrespectful or always tardy, she said.
